The food processing industries contribute around 14% of manufacturing Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 13% of India’s exports and 6% of the total industrial investment.

The state of Jharkhand has immense potentials in the fields of vegetables (Tomato, Capsicum, Cauliflower, Jackfruit, Peas, French bean etc.), Fruits, Tubers, Millets, Spices, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants, Milk, Meat of Small Animals like Goat and Sheep etc. due to its favourable weather conditions. At present vegetable cultivation area in Jharkhand is 2.87 Lakh Ha. Near about 5,000,000 MT vegetables are produced in Jharkhand, this is 6% of total production of vegetable of national production, whereas 30%-35% is surplus in the ratio of consumption.

There is a huge supply of tomato, peas, potato, carrot and other vegetables. Jharkhand is the 2nd largest producer of Peas and 6th largest producer of Okra, Cauliflower & Cabbage.
